Looking for women who came here as adults and are somewhere in this world

In six years I have never once talked about this part of my life in the language I actually think in. Every conversation, every message, every argument with my husband about it, all of it in my second language, and something goes missing every time.

That sounds like a small thing. It is not. There are words for how I feel about all of this that exist in one language and not the other, and I have spent six years approximating.

Forty, North York, in this world for six years, part of a couple, settled and not looking for anybody.

What I would like is one or two women who came here as adults, from anywhere, who understand what it is to have a whole area of your life that only exists in translation. I do not need us to share a first language, though it would be extraordinary. I mostly need somebody who knows what I mean by this post.

Coffee, a walk, messages, whatever suits.

Not looking to meet anybody's husband. Not looking for a couple. Not looking for anything except conversation, and I want to be direct about that because a woman posting alone here gets read a particular way and I would rather not spend four messages correcting it.

Answer a post like this one Replies do not run through this page. They go through the connected platform, where neither side hands over anything identifying to reach the other.

Respond through the platform →

Before the first drink Replying goes through the connected platform, so nothing about you is shared until you decide to share it. Take contact slowly and keep identifying details back until trust is earned. Meet somewhere public the first time, with your own way home from it, and if you are a couple then go together. Tell someone outside it where you are going. Never send money to someone you have not met. And if a post or a reply reads wrong, flag it rather than talking yourself out of the feeling.

Nobody here is asking for a date, so none of this is about arranging one.

  • What it is actually like, against what you imagined
  • How to tell your partner you want this
  • When there is no scene where you live
