We are taking a year off and we would still like to know people
Looking for the company, while the rest of it is paused
We are taking a year off. Nothing went wrong. One of us has been unwell, the other has been holding a great deal together, and neither of us has the appetite for anything at the moment. We expect that to change and we are not counting on it.
What we do not want to lose in the meantime is the people. Seven years in this world and almost everyone we know socially is in it somewhere, and we have noticed over the last few months how quickly you stop being invited to things when you are not participating.
Both in our fifties, the west end. This is not a coded post and we are not quietly available. We are genuinely not doing any of it.
What we want is dinner, coffee, conversation. We are good company on a bad year and we have a great deal of accumulated experience that is going spare.
Not looking for a third. Not looking to be talked back into anything, which two well meaning people have tried. Not looking for advice about how to get the appetite back, which arrives unprompted and which we have heard. Not looking to explain the health part in any detail, so please do not ask.
Before the first drink Replying goes through the connected platform, so nothing about you is shared until you decide to share it. Take contact slowly and keep identifying details back until trust is earned. Meet somewhere public the first time, with your own way home from it, and if you are a couple then go together. Tell someone outside it where you are going. Never send money to someone you have not met. And if a post or a reply reads wrong, flag it rather than talking yourself out of the feeling.
Before you answer a post like this
Nobody here is asking for a date, so none of this is about arranging one.
- What it is actually like, against what you imagined
- How to tell your partner you want this
- When there is no scene where you live
