When I cancel it is almost always the traffic, and I am sorry
Looking for somebody who will not read a cancelled Tuesday as a verdict
I have cancelled on people more times than I am comfortable admitting, and almost every time it has been because a forty minute drive turned into an hour and fifty and I was already tired before I started. It is never about the person and it always looks like it is.
What I have learned is to build the whole thing around not needing to cancel. Afternoons rather than evenings. Somewhere close rather than somewhere good. Planning a month out so that a bad day does not take the whole evening with it.
Thirty four, the Valley, married seven years, three of them like this. Two men in that time, one for about a year.
My husband handles the cancelling better than I do. He is at home for everything and does not attend anything, and his view is that a missed evening is just a missed evening.
We can host, and that solves more of this than anything else has. Not looking for anyone who will take a cancelled Tuesday personally, because it will happen. Not looking for anyone who lives somewhere that makes every meeting a commitment. Not looking for anyone who needs an evening to start at eight, because by eight I am finished.
Before the first drink Replying goes through the connected platform, so nothing about you is shared until you decide to share it. Take contact slowly and keep identifying details back until trust is earned. Meet somewhere public the first time, with your own way home from it, and if you are a couple then go together. Tell someone outside it where you are going. Never send money to someone you have not met. And if a post or a reply reads wrong, flag it rather than talking yourself out of the feeling.
