We packed the car one October and stopped putting things off
Looking for somebody who also stopped waiting for the right moment
We packed the car one October, sat in traffic with the dog and two boxes of paperwork, and spent three nights somewhere else not knowing whether the house would be there. It was. Almost everything about our life carried on exactly as before, except that we stopped putting things off.
This was one of the things we had been putting off. Eleven years of a conversation that came up perhaps twice a year and never went anywhere, and then a very ordinary Tuesday afternoon when one of us said we should actually do something about it.
Forty six and forty nine, the Orange County side, eighteen months in. She has met two men, one of whom we saw for a few months.
He is at home, knows the lot, and wants to hear about it in more detail than she thinks is normal. What we want is one person over a long stretch. We are aware that we are not young, that we are a drive from most of this board, and that eighteen months is not much experience for our age.
Not looking for anyone who wants to hear about that week, which was not dramatic and is not a story. Not looking for anyone in a hurry, since we waited eleven years. Not looking for anyone who needs us to be more certain than we are.
Before the first drink Replying goes through the connected platform, so nothing about you is shared until you decide to share it. Take contact slowly and keep identifying details back until trust is earned. Meet somewhere public the first time, with your own way home from it, and if you are a couple then go together. Tell someone outside it where you are going. Never send money to someone you have not met. And if a post or a reply reads wrong, flag it rather than talking yourself out of the feeling.
Before you answer a post like this
Two people wrote this together, and both of them have to say yes to you. These are the three written for the man on the other end of it.
- What makes a single man read as safe
- Vetting a couple: the screening men skip
- The first meeting: a drink, all three of you
