A woman corrected me in my second year and I have never forgotten it
Looking for a couple willing to hear that I learned this the embarrassing way
In my second year I wrote to a couple, at length, warmly, and mentioned the husband exactly once, in the last line, to say I hoped he was comfortable with everything. She replied with four sentences. The last one was that he had written most of the post I had just answered.
I have thought about that reply more than any conversation I have had since. Not because she was harsh. Because she was right, and because I had genuinely believed I was one of the considerate ones.
Thirty eight, north of the river, seven years in. What changed afterwards was mechanical. I now write to whoever wrote the post. I ask him what he is after in the same message rather than in a follow up. If both of them have written, I answer both, separately, in the same reply.
Two arrangements since, one of three years, which ended when they moved out of the city and which I still miss.
I can host, which in this city seems to be worth more than everything above. Not looking for a couple where he is not involved, because I am now unreasonably alert to it. Not looking to be praised for basic manners, which happens and which I find embarrassing. Not looking for anything that has to start quickly.
Before the first drink Replying goes through the connected platform, so nothing about you is shared until you decide to share it. Take contact slowly and keep identifying details back until trust is earned. Meet somewhere public the first time, with your own way home from it, and if you are a couple then go together. Tell someone outside it where you are going. Never send money to someone you have not met. And if a post or a reply reads wrong, flag it rather than talking yourself out of the feeling.
Before you answer a post like this
Answering as a couple means screening him together rather than one of you doing it privately. Start here.
