“When I first encountered the woman who would later become my spouse, we were both twenty-two. Prior to meeting her, I had only two relationships with women; one was purely sexual while the other I dated for roughly a year but didn’t sleep with. The second relationship allowed me more intimacy because she helped overcome my shyness, even though I wasn’t particularly drawn to her romantically. Before those connections, I’d only gone on a single date.
My future wife had been married twice before. Her first husband was the very first man she ever shared a bed with. During their marriage of over two years, he cheated frequently, which left her with a deep distrust of men in general, convinced that most are unfaithful. Her second union wasn’t even consummated and lasted only a few days, so I don’t really count it.
Afterward, she had several partners, many of them one-night stands. In early November 1973, I met my future wife at the lounge where she worked as a bartender—a place I rarely visited unless prompted by work friends to stop for a drink. The moment I walked in and saw her from behind, I noticed her long, dark, straight hair cascading down to her beautiful backside. I knew right then that lust had struck me hard. After talking with her all night, love followed quickly. I took her home, we smoked some weed, kissed passionately, and though I was sure things would go further that night, she sent me off with a persistent erection.”,
