Well, I gave in and ordered a time delay safe from Germany. It’s one of those models that can be programmed to open at a specific hour during the day. I thought about building my own but realized that ultimately it wouldn’t save me much money. With shipping included from Germany, I paid $267. You can easily locate it by searching on E-Bay. I’ll write up a review once it arrives in early May. Although May was E-Bay’s estimated delivery window, the wait shouldn’t really be that long.

Why choose a delayed opening safe? My wife and I decided this was the most straightforward solution for her.;p Since I work for The Man, factors like random drug screenings, potential injuries, and the physical demands of my job led us to decide that I wouldn’t wear my cage while on duty. Instead of her having to get up before dawn on days when she doesn’t work but I do, she can simply lock the key inside the safe so it unlocks just in time for me to head out. I rather like the idea of needing to wait for it to open before I’m allowed to leave.:)
