About six weeks ago or so I bought a used Steelheart 2 from Germany, and it finally arrived on Tuesday. My primary objective was to find something roughly my size so I could see if I liked custom steel devices enough to commission one myself.
Well, that mission is done. This device is absolutely fantastic, and now I understand the hype. The dimensions were close enough for it to work perfectly, which makes me want to order a custom version tailored exactly to me.
Short summary of my questions:
- For overall length, should I match my SMALLEST POSSIBLE flaccid length (without hunching over and turtling), or the average shortest? If I take random measurements like 60mm, 58mm, 59mm, 61mm, 56mm, etc., do I go with that single lowest value of 56mm, or base it on the average?
- For inner diameter, my glans is about 33mm. Should I choose 34mm or 31.5mm?
- Regarding the A-ring: a 47mm circular ring feels secure and mostly comfortable but needs lube and can burn at night (and during erections). Do I stick with a 47mm anatomical ring, or try something different?
Longer details: The measurements for my current device were reported by the original seller (I assume they are correct, though confirming overall length is tricky because depending on how you measure the curve, it ranges from 70-80mm: Overall Length: 70mm Tube inner diameter: 40mm A-Ring: 47mm standard circular ring
Overall Length Depending on the day and time, when I am completely flaccid, my tip sits between 5-14mm from the end of the tube. Yesterday, while sitting normally, the furthest back it went was 9mm from the end. Today, the maximum retraction is about 14 or 15mm. Interestingly, it seems to retreat around 5mm whenever I decide to measure; I can watch it retract a few seconds after inserting the Q-tip for measurement. When resting and not paying attention, it looks like roughly 60mm, but when being prodded by the Q-tip, closer to 55/56mm. So I lean towards 58 or 60mm and would love your thoughts.
Inner Diameter The Steelheart I have has been modified with slits for a more open design: Image These slits let me use a Q-tip to measure. If my penis rests on the very bottom of the cage and I insert 8mm of Q-tip through the top slit, I can just touch the widest part of my glans. Getting an identical 8mm measurement from the side slit confirms this. Since the tube wall is slightly under 1mm thick, a 33mm tube should lightly touch my glans on all sides. Dietmar offers 34mm and 31.5mm tubes, so I am guessing 34mm might be right?
Ring size and shape I used a CB6ks for the last couple of months. While I could fit 2-3 fingers under its largest ring (50mm), it was the only option that avoided daytime burning but caused intense night-time burning, chafing, and injuries with smaller spacers. With the smallest spacer, one testicle did pop out once during adjustments, so I couldn’t tolerate a slightly smaller ring than 50mm. My current Steelheart at 47mm allows about one finger in (maybe two if pushed) and feels quite secure. I imagine it would be possible to force a testicle through with some pain, but I haven’t tested that thoroughly.
Comfort-wise, the 47mm is much better than the CB6ks at 50mm. During the day, it works without lube for a while but gets uncomfortable once sweat builds up; silicon lubricant helps significantly. At night, there is still some burning/swelling, though it is manageable and lube helps. I am torn about the ring choice. I am tempted by an anatomical (bent) 47mm ring, but I worry if a circular 47mm might allow testicle slippage like the anatomical shape does. Input here would be helpful. I don’t strongly object to buying two rings, but I prefer one that fits well rather than two that fit poorly.
Any advice on these three measurements is greatly appreciated!
