Testicle itchiness after taking off the cage

I own a CB6000S that feels great. My wife isn’t quite as fond of it, so I take it off for anywhere from a day to two weeks without issue after wearing it continuously. That said, when I do remove the device, my testicles get very itchy and require some Savlon or similar treatment. On one occasion, I even developed blisters. The itching stops immediately once I put the cage back on, restoring comfort.

Does anyone have suggestions? Obviously, leaving the device in permanently is the easy answer! But that isn’t entirely practical.
