Opening up changed our marriage in ways we had not put on the list
Looking for somebody who understands that this is not a hobby
Five years in, and the honest report is that this changed our marriage in ways neither of us had on the list, most of them good and one of them hard.
The good: we talk properly now. She stopped managing his moods and he stopped guessing at hers. We are considerably funnier with each other than we were at thirty. And there is something about knowing your partner has chosen you again, in a completely undramatic way, on an ordinary Wednesday, that eleven years of marriage had not given us.
The hard: his confidence took a knock in the second year that took about eight months to come back. Nothing anybody did. It was simply the gap between imagining something and watching it happen, and he has said since that he would not have believed anyone who warned him.
Thirty nine and forty two, downtown, married eleven years, five of them open.
What we want now is one person over a long time, because we have both had enough of the beginning of things.
We cannot host, for the usual reasons about buildings in this city.
Not looking for anyone who thinks of this as a hobby, or as something a couple does on a Saturday. Not looking for anyone who needs everything to be light. Not looking for anyone who will be uncomfortable when one of us says something true.
Before the first drink Replying goes through the connected platform, so nothing about you is shared until you decide to share it. Take contact slowly and keep identifying details back until trust is earned. Meet somewhere public the first time, with your own way home from it, and if you are a couple then go together. Tell someone outside it where you are going. Never send money to someone you have not met. And if a post or a reply reads wrong, flag it rather than talking yourself out of the feeling.
Before you answer a post like this
Two people wrote this together, and both of them have to say yes to you. These are the three written for the man on the other end of it.
- What makes a single man read as safe
- Vetting a couple: the screening men skip
- The first meeting: a drink, all three of you
