Ours ended because he met someone, and we are genuinely happy for him
Looking for somebody to start the long version with again
It ended in March because he met somebody who did not want him doing this, and he told us within a week of it becoming serious rather than three months later, which is more than most people manage. We are pleased for him and we have been quietly wretched about it since, and both of those are true at the same time.
Five years. He came to us for Christmas twice. He was at her father's funeral. Whatever this arrangement is supposed to be on paper, it had become something with a great deal of ordinary life in it, and the ending has been more like a friend emigrating than anything else.
Forty two and forty five, north of the river, nine years open in total.
So we are starting again, without any interest in pretending we are excited about the process. What we want is the long version. Somebody who will still be around in three years, who is fine with becoming part of a household in the boring sense, and who understands that we are comparing everything to something that worked.
We cannot host at the moment. Not looking for anyone who wants to hear about him. Not looking for anyone who would find the Christmas part alarming. Not looking to rush into an arrangement in order to feel better, which is the mistake we can both feel ourselves being tempted by.
Before the first drink Replying goes through the connected platform, so nothing about you is shared until you decide to share it. Take contact slowly and keep identifying details back until trust is earned. Meet somewhere public the first time, with your own way home from it, and if you are a couple then go together. Tell someone outside it where you are going. Never send money to someone you have not met. And if a post or a reply reads wrong, flag it rather than talking yourself out of the feeling.
Before you answer a post like this
Two people wrote this together, and both of them have to say yes to you. These are the three written for the man on the other end of it.
- What makes a single man read as safe
- Vetting a couple: the screening men skip
- The first meeting: a drink, all three of you
