I’ve had to completely give up on the Fort device because it’s either not stainless steel at all, or it’s a very poor quality grade that rusts easily. The trouble began with the base rings included with the unit; they weren’t actually stainless but rather chrome-plated alloy. I developed a skin rash from these rings which turned my skin black and caused scabbing.

To fix this, I found a good surgical-grade stainless steel cock ring and had a machine shop drill holes in it to align with the cage pins. I tried drilling them myself first, but the metal was too tough for me, so I went back to the pros. It worked fine for some time until I started feeling discomfort from a rough edge on the cage after being locked up for two weeks or so.

With my wife’s approval, I took it off and used a Dremel tool to grind down that rough spot. When I put it back in, it felt comfortable where I had smoothed it out. However, the next day soreness set in, forcing me to remove it again for inspection. Sure enough, the area I’d filed was rusting over, bringing back the black discoloration on my skin wherever it touched the metal.

It seems the Fort device is just another subpar piece of hardware. While I’m no metallurgist, it’s clear that either the stainless steel grade is very low and prone to rust, or it’s merely chrome-plated regular steel. For now, I’ll be returning to my trusty CB2000 until I can save up for a much higher quality device.

I know some people love their Forts without issue, but let my bad experience serve as a heads-up if you’re considering buying one.

Where this goes next

Every thread on this board is somebody in the same few months of their life, told from different ends of it: the conversation that has not happened yet, the one that ended in tears, the drink that went well, and the weeks afterwards. The site has a page for each, and one account of an evening written while it was still fresh.
