In today’s world of heightened security and metal detectors, I believe anyone secured with a metal lock should have access to an emergency key. HOWEVER, the key must be secured so that the KH can tell if it has been used or tampered with. After much thought, I devised this simple yet secure method for carrying my key. We chose against using only plastic numbered locks due to hygiene concerns; without cutting them off, you cannot wash them completely clean. The cover piece was cut from the plastic lid of a coffee can. One ziptie keeps everything tight, while the other holds the numbered lock flat in place. Notice how the key protrudes through a small opening at the bottom. This prevents anyone from turning or manipulating it to use it without detection. Just wanted to share this with everyone.
