I’ve noticed remarks in a couple of discussions regarding the challenge of expressing your desires without leading from underneath, along with other related complications. I want to share a game my wife and I created twenty-five years back, when we were both young and reserved, which offered an enjoyable and somewhat pure method for handling this situation (though we likely wouldn’t have understood the term “topping from the bottom” at that time). If you wish, each of you should write down a fantasy you’d like to realize on a small piece of paper. Next, conceal it somewhere around your home. The location must be accessible enough for your partner to discover within one or two months; neither too conspicuous nor overly hidden. You can have multiple fantasies/papers as long as there are suitable spots. Upon finding your spouse’s fantasy, carefully unfold and read the note, then refold it and put it back in its spot. This ensures your partner remains unsure whether you’ve seen it or not. Should the wish appeal to you, you may fulfill it as a pleasant surprise. If it doesn’t suit you, simply never bring it up. Actually, we established that as a core rule of our game: always keep quiet about having read a fantasy, even if you decide not to act on it; there’s still joy in the suspense.
