About six weeks ago or so, I bought a used Steelheart 2 from Germany and set it up on Tuesday. My primary reason for buying was to find a device that roughly matched my size, allowing me to see if I liked custom steel devices enough to commission one of my own.

Mission accomplished. This thing is fantastic, and now I understand the hype. The measurements were close enough that it works well, and I’d like to order a custom fit for perfect comfort. The Quick Summary:

  • For overall length, should I match my absolute smallest flaccid measurement (without bending over or trying to hide), or my average shortest? If I take several random readings—60mm, 60mm, 58mm, 59mm, 61mm, 56mm, 59mm, 61mm, 60mm, 58mm, 59mm, 62mm—should I go with the single lowest of 56mm or base it on the average?
  • For inner diameter, my glans measures around 33mm. Should I choose between 34mm and 31.5mm?
  • For the A-ring, a standard 47mm circular ring feels secure but needs some lube; it burns at night (and during erections). Is a 47mm anatomical ring better, or something different? More Detail: The current device’s specs were reported by the original seller (I assume they are correct, though I can’t quite figure out how to verify the overall length because depending on the curve used, it ranges from 70-80mm: Overall Length: 70mm Tube inner diameter: 40mm A-Ring: 47mm standard circular ring Overall Length Depending on the day, time, and other factors, when fully flaccid I am about 5-14mm from the end of the tube. Yesterday, while sitting normally, the furthest back I got was 9mm from the end. Today, the maximum is around 14 or 15mm away. Interestingly, it seems to retreat about 5mm whenever I measure; I can see it retract a few seconds after inserting the Q-tip for measurement. When resting and not paying attention, it sits at roughly 60mm, but when ‘attacked’ by the Q-tip, it drops closer to 55/56mm. So, I’m leaning towards 58 or 60mm and would value input on that. Inner Diameter The Steelheart I have has been modified with slits for a more open design: C139fQa.jpg These slits let me use a Q-tip to measure. If my penis rests at the very bottom of the cage and I insert 8mm of Q-tip into the top slit, I can just touch the widest part of my glans. The side slit gives about an 8mm measurement too. Since the cage walls are slightly under 1mm thick, a 33mm tube would lightly touch all sides of my glans. Dietmar offers both 34mm and 31.5mm tubes. I suspect 34mm is what I need? Ring size and shape I used a CB6ks for the last couple of months. While it allowed 2-3 fingers under its largest ring (50mm), that was the only option that avoided daytime burning, though nights still brought intense chafing/injuries. With the smallest spacer in my current device, one testicle popped out once during adjustments/lube application, but I couldn’t tolerate a smaller ring than 47mm with it, so I stuck with 50mm for the CB6ks and am now at 47mm on the Steelheart. The 47mm Steelheart allows about one finger (maybe two if pushed) in and feels quite secure. One could theoretically force a testicle through with some effort/pain, but I haven’t felt compelled to test this yet. Comfort-wise, it’s much better than the CB6ks at 50mm. During the day, it works without lube for a while, but discomfort builds as sweat accumulates; silicon lubricant helps significantly. At night, there is still some burning/swelling, though far more manageable than before with lube helping. I’m tempted by an anatomical (bent) 47mm ring, but wonder if a circular one at 47mm might allow testicle slippage similar to the anatomical style? Input here would be great. I don’t mind buying two rings, but prefer getting it right with one. I definitely want to avoid having both fail slightly. Any advice on these three measurements is greatly appreciated!

Where this goes next

Every thread on this board is somebody in the same few months of their life, told from different ends of it: the conversation that has not happened yet, the one that ended in tears, the drink that went well, and the weeks afterwards. The site has a page for each, and one account of an evening written while it was still fresh.
