How Many Deer Hunters Are on the Forum?

It’s the first time I’ve sat in the deer woods this season. Reading about Tongue and Groove’s son returning for a hunt got me thinking.

I opened up last weekend. It’s always wonderful to be in the woods with family and friends now that my kids are starting to hunt; it's fun being part of their world. The solar-lunar calendar wasn't great for game activity, but our area looks excellent this weekend. Plus, I managed to catch a mix of fish on the river during afternoons between stand hunts. I always enjoy watching those rutting bucks get so silly with hormones, almost losing their minds as they chase what they can't have around the woods until "Mrs. Doe" permits... it reminds me of a few folks here who I read and admire!

If I were so inclined to get one, hunting for them isn't necessary. Plenty of deer (and turkey) stroll by my house regularly; I can just step onto the porch and grab one. With enough property, I don't even worry about licenses or whether it's the 'right' season. There are a couple of spots where they like to bed down. Unfortunately, although I enjoy eating deer and moose (and so does Mrs., though she doesn't know it), I can’t handle the cleaning, skinning, and butchering. I skipped out on biology class right when we were supposed to dissect a worm. I can barely manage to clean a trout or pickerel.
