Fixing the Integrated Lock I had a couple of issues with my previous cage, which was an inexpensive model from China, so I figured it was time for a replacement. My wife, who holds the key and is very sweet about it, insisted against going custom because she felt that would be too expensive. So, I opted for another budget-friendly Chinese option this time, featuring an integrated lock mechanism. However, there’s a catch with these internal locks: they are much easier to slide in when you aren’t wearing the cage! Why is alignment and insertion tricky? I think it comes down to all those flat surfaces that tend to snag if things aren’t perfectly aligned. Here’s how I solved it: I used a small metal file. Since brass is relatively soft, removing just a tiny bit of material—specifically the parts that catch on the entry hole made inserting the lock much smoother. The image below highlights three arrows pointing out where most issues occur. Arrow “A” indicates the flat tip of the lock. Arrow “B” shows a slight step-up to a wider diameter between the spinning part and the stationary housing. Arrow “C” points to the flange, which can also snag during insertion. brass lock.jpg brass lock.jpg (54.93 KiB) Viewed 2771 times The second image displays my modified lock with just a little brass removed. Arrow “A” now points to the bullet-shaped leading end. Arrow “B” shows how the ledge has been tapered to avoid catching, and arrow “C” highlights the rounded front edge of the flange. brass lock 2.jpg brass lock 2.jpg (94.56 KiB) Viewed 2771 times This tweak doesn’t make the insertion flawless; you’ll still feel some resistance as parts struggle to stay aligned, but it’s noticeably easier now. Hope this is useful! Caution: don’t remove too much brass; just enough to smooth out sharp edges. If you go overboard, you risk damaging the lock.

Couples threads are logistics with feelings attached: what to write down, what to hand over, who pays for what, and how long any of it takes. Two of these pages are about the agreement itself, and the third is the honest answer about the calendar.
