We began using the Bird Cage last October. Before long, my husband transitioned from a 2-inch ring to a 1 3/4-inch one when we ordered our custom device. We used that measurement for the order. Originally, the tube length was longer than it is now—perhaps too long—but we had it shortened. Initially, everything fit well and felt comfortable, except the cage length was slightly excessive. After shortening it, however, the ring never quite sat right; the cage started twisting and pulling away from his body significantly.
We recently sent it back to get a larger 1 7/8-inch ring installed and to correct the twist. The twisting seems resolved, but he is still uncomfortable in the ring… could it be that the longer cage gave him more room so less tissue was near the ring, whereas now with the shorter tube, there’s thicker flesh at the base?
We really believe a 2-inch ring would fit him comfortably without irritation. It’s all so confusing… I’m tempted to just order an entirely new device with a 2-inch ring and slightly longer cage as a backup.
Has anyone else found themselves needing a larger ring size after switching down? Do others have both shorter and longer devices requiring different rings?
I’m getting frustrated!
