Whenever my wife heads out and leaves me home by myself, she likes to secure my Curve a bit more. She adds something that stops me from pulling the device out or slipping it back in without her knowing. The usual fix is adding a belt, but it’s not as straightforward as you’d think. We were looking for an option that didn’t need an extra lock and could be added without taking off the device. After plenty of experimenting, I’ve found a simple solution!

For pulling out to work properly, there needs to be some space between your body and the device. You need something pressing the device toward you—not up or down, but inward.

Getting this right simply can be tricky, but I believe we nailed it. It’s hard even to wiggle a finger in between my pubic bone and the device. Here is how it works, with an image included for clarity:

I use an American Eagle belt featuring two D-rings as the cinching mechanism. The belt is made of fabric and is wide enough to be comfortable around my waist, even when tightened so much that I can’t slide it over my barely-there hip bones.

Fortunately, there are eye holes near the end on the loose side of the belt. This allows me to wrap the belt around my waist, loop the free end through the D-rings a few times if needed to take up slack, and then thread that loose end down through an eye hole using the device’s lock. Once locked, that belt isn’t going anywhere!

The other piece of gear is a fabric loop about two feet long and an inch wide. (If it were too thin, it would dig in—my wife used a strap from a soft canvas shopping bag). I loop one end around my back waistband first (before putting the rest on), threading it up through the crack, around both sides of my sac, and then looping it forward through the front part of the belt. Again, this happens before fastening everything.

Then, take those two fabric strands wrapping around your sac and pass them through the device’s lock as well. Voila! As long as the fabric is tight enough, you get solid inward pressure on the device at the locking point. Obviously, that fabric loop needs to be very snug. Mine was a bit too long initially, so I tied some knots above the device but below where it meets the belt. These knots might actually help direct more pressure onto the device, so they may well be necessary.

I’ve worn this setup for a couple of hours now and found it quite comfortable! I could probably get out if I really tried, but not without significant pain (wriggling sideways with almost no room) or cutting the loop—which my wife would definitely notice.

Let me know if anyone finds this useful; I was pretty excited when I worked out this simple solution! Image

Couples threads are logistics with feelings attached: what to write down, what to hand over, who pays for what, and how long any of it takes. Two of these pages are about the agreement itself, and the third is the honest answer about the calendar.
